svchost.exe Runtime Error on startup

Running WinXP SP2
Almost everytime I start my computer I get a Runtime Error from Microsoft
Visual C++ Runtime Library:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

If I close this error screen, my computer will not soft boot.
Any suggestions?

Thank you Calvin, but I use Adaware SE Personal, and it has not helped with this

problem. Also, I have run AVG Free, and Registry Mechanic (not for this
reason, but just as regular maintenance).
Any more suggestions?
