Running slowly

I'm running Win XP Pro. Have recently added a lot of music to Media Player
and computer running slowly. I think I'm a candidate for more RAM - now
using 512 mb.

Before I double the RAM, any other suggestions? I've cleaned out temps and
cookies and did a defrag.

Thanks

Roger

Probably not a bad idea. Depends, tho'.

How 'bout a little more info on your computer.

Processor speed?

Size of System drive?

Is it always slow? Or just at certain times?

The music only occupies drive space, not RAM. You would be time ahead
determining what happened to the PC. Where did the music come from(did
you get a unintended hitch hiker?, and need to clean the malware off )
Or perhaps the drive had a read problem and access has reverted to PIO
from DMA?(see Primary IDE channel in Device manager, uninstall/reinstall
the channel to reset it)

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?
