Running setup from the hard drive

Is there a way to run a Windows XP upgrade install from a copy of the
i386 folder that has been copied to the hard drive on a NT system?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Boot from a DOS floppy or CD. (preferably one with smartdrv support)

C:
CD \I386
WINNT

First, check the following site and see if your current system qualify for
Upgrade:

For other upgrade options see:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/default.mspx

Second, if your system is qualify then run WINNT or WINNT32 within from I386
folder.
