Out of curiousity, is it normal to have 46 running processes in WinXP? When
I open the task manager and click on processes, it list 46 different items
in there. Just wondering if this is normal? Thanx Patty

.I just checked mine--and it's running 35 right now--by
the way I am holding back on installing service pack 2
due to a problem with another machine I just put it on
for a neighbor--seems there are many bugs in sp2.

46 processes seems a bit much...I would check the processes, particularly
ones with the user name beside them. Too many processes can slow a fast
computer down. go to www.answersthatwork.com and click on "tasklist" for an
explanation of each running process. You really should not have more than 24,
25 when all windows are closed. There is also a lot of software (free) that
will give you control over which programs start with windows. for example
www.mlin.net has a small start up control panel that sits in control panel.
good luck
