running ms dos programme on xp

I have an ms dos programme that is running fine on my pc running xp but when
I try running on my laptop (also running xp) the spaces between words beome
characters! I've tried adding ansi.sys as recommended by my manual - can
anyone suggest how i can make it run ok on the laptop??

Not sure why people are afraid to tell others exactly "which" program won't
work but if you put the name of the misbehaving program in your post, maybe
someone that is actually running that particular program can help.
