Running Millenium on XP

D

Dave Neve

Hi

I seem to remember reading an article that it is possible to install one
system like a 'bubble' within another.

I don't mean actually installing two explotation systems side by side with a
dual boot but more like Linux within Windows type of thing.

I need to install Millenium within windows to run an irreplacable software
that won't run on XP

Is it possible or is there any other trick to run this one program made for
Millenium or before.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried the compatibility feature? Right-click the program icon, properties,
compatibility tab.

I agree with Mary on this one. But if you really need to run
Windows ME in a window from within Win XP, then you should
investigate Microsoft's Virtual PC product. Keep in mind that you
will need a fast computer with plenty of memory to run two OSes
on your computer smoothly.

What you're describing sounds a lot like Virtual PC:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx

Have you checked the website for this program? Do they have any updates or
recommendations for running the program under XP or Win2000? There are also
compatibility settings within XP that might work with this older Windows
program. Take a look at Start> Programs>Accessories> Program Compatibility
Wizard and read up about it in Help and Support.

As needs for WinME, I too have software/hardware that won't run under XP. It
needs direct access to printer port. So tips on get updated version rest of
you may skip it.
Now back to subject.
I use VMware Workstation.
http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/ws_features.html

It also supports 2 USB devices on top of what MS Virtual PC does.
My P4 3.2Gh 1Gb memory runs without hiccup, even if I run XP "inside" XP

There is Microsoft's Virtual PC product - but fairly expensive.
