Start | Run | Cmd, then ok takes you to a command prompt. Also see
compatibililty mode in Help and Support. Note that some games will not
work in XP.

Windows XP isn't the only MS operating system, which don't run DOS Programs,
It's the NT-Kernel which doesn't allow you to. If you want to run DOS
programs, I suggest you use Windows 95, 98 or ME on a seperate partition and
then, your DOS Programs will run perfectly. Another thing I must add, if you
don't need Good Sound Audio for your DOS Programs, I will suggest using
Virtual PC and install MS-DOS, them you can run the program.

SOME programs will run in a window...
start>run>command
that should open a DOS type window
type in the path to the program and see if it will run in that window.
Usually Windows will create a .pif file to start the program in that mode if
you just double click the .exe file.

Dos in Windows is configured to run coporate programs. Like any dos program you must tune Dos to your application. Coporates need network and other services. Games need memory. As configured Windows takes memory and gives it to dos services and drivers. Read the game manual.
