Running DOS Programs in WinXP SP2

Does anyone know a way to run MS-DOS programs in the Command Prompt in
Windows XP? Whenever I try to run one of my old software apps in the command
prompt I run into problems. I frequently cannot get all of the way through
the setup (and when I can it will only run for a few minutes and then it will
not launch again). When I use the same disk and try to install it on an
older Windows machine (w/ MS-DOS Prompt) it works perfectly.

I thoght that it might be caused by either the speed of my machine or the
file system. I installed an old 4GB FAT32 Hard drive but I run into the same
problem. This drive comes up as the fifth drive (G:\) because I have 4 NTFS
partitions on my main (boot) drive (C: D: E: F:).

I am not sure about the speed of my machine. It is 32-Bit. It has a
Pentium 4 processor @ 3GHz with Hyperthreading enabled. I also have 1 GB of
RAM. I have Win XP Home Edition with SP2 installed. DVD-ROM drive also
being used.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try Googling for "dosbox"

No guarantees, of course, but Dosbox allows me to run ASCENDANCY on XP.
Strangely, it ran for 2 years before suddenly refusing to run - albeit with
a very pedestrian mouse.

I tried this and it seemed to work. The only problem I am having now is that
it is extremely slow on my machine and picture has lines through it. The
sound also cuts out also. Is there any way to fix this? Other that that, it
works.

Thanks!

Thank-you,

I tried out the first one that you mentioned and it seemed to run better.
Still a little slow, but much better quality and speed. I will continue to
look for updates on this so that I can hopefully have improved performance.

Thanks Again!
