Running Autoexec.nt

I have modified Autoexec.nt in \Windows\System32 to include a path
statement. (This path, with appropriate modifications, was taken from a
computer running W2K.) However, after restarting XP and starting a command
window (cmd),
the command window doesn't have this path (as it would in W2K). Is
Autoexec.nt not being executed after XP restarts or is there some other
problem? How can I diagnose the problem?

Thanks,

AUTOEXEC.NT is not executed at the system start but is for running DOS
applications in Windows. See "How to Manage Environment Variables in
Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310519).
