Running applications don't appear in the taskbar

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my taskbar if and when it appears. The
taskbar doesn't always appear on the desktop, I can see the blue line
at the bottom of the screen but that's it. It's not on autohide. If I
reboot it might show up but then there is another problem.

The applications that I open don't appear in the taskbar, I can't click
the 'start' button or use the window's key on the keyboard. The only
way to switch programs is by Alt+tab or through the task manager.

I've read on other threads about a greeting card program that can be
uninstalled. This doesn't appear in my add/remove programs (if and when
I can get access to it). I also tried the fix taskbar tool but that
won't work, gives me a runtime error. System restore won't work, it
tells me to reboot and try again but I keep getting the same problem. I
have tried to open McAfee to run a scan and this is what's worrying me,
it won't open.

Any help anyone can give me with this would be greatly appreciated. I'm
at my wit's end!

Hi Will,

I can get onto Kelly's site and download the tool but it just gives a
runtime error.

When I click your link I get a .vbs to download. Do I just treat this
as a .exe, doubleclick to run? Or is there something else I need to do
with it?

Hi

Run the file from a command prompt in the folder where you downloaded it to.
You will see a message to restart the Explorer Shell - click 'Yes' and then
'OK'.

I just tried that and nothing happened. No boxes came up to click or
anything.

Earlier when I tried fixall program I got a runtime error 462 "The
remote server machine is unavailable or does not exist".

I'm thinking I have a bigger problem but I really don't want to
reinstall Windows.

I just tried that, opened Command prompt and typed cscript and nothing
happens. Nothing appears it just give the same original prompt.

Does this suggest anything?
