I have been having problems with rundll32.exe on shutdown. It always has to
have me end task to shut off the computer. I am running XP pro.
Any ideas.??

Hi,

Please perform SFC:

Follow the steps listed below to update Windows files
using System File Checker:

1. Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD or the Operating
System Backup CD into your CD-ROM drive. Once the Windows
XP window opens, please close it and continue with step 2.

2. Click the Start button.

3. Click Run.

4. In the Run dialog box type sfc /scannow then press
Enter key on the keyboard or click the OK button.

5. The Windows File Protection window will appear.
Please do not do any other tasks while this application
runs. The application should automatically replace any
Windows XP system files that are missing or corrupted. If
you are prompted to replace a file, please say Yes to
replace the file.

6. When the System File Checker application finishes
scanning your Windows XP system files, the window should
automatically close. Please restart your computer by
clicking the Start button, Turn Off Computer, then
clicking the Restart button.

Hope this help!

Bye,
Raj

hi al

I write this post because we have the same problem in France and I have seen that there

was many many posts also in United States on this forum

this bug ,with rundll32 at shutdown, is due to an adware whose name is Winfavorites.bridg

It is knowned and removed with PestPatrol
see this link
http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/w/winfavorites_bridge.as

The french forumer has removed this adaware with last versions of 'Spybot Search and Destroy', and 'Ad-Aware

There is also a line we can see in startup tab of msconfig ; this line starts Bridge.dl
(start , execute type: msconfig) . You can unckeck it in a first time . I don't know if this line is always in msconfig

voila - sorry for my bad english

Hi Parker,

Thanks for your posting here.

The offending program is often referred to as "Bridge" in the system
configuration utility.

In general, following is the command line:

RUNDLL32.EXE "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\BRIDGE.DLL" LOAD

The startup entry is located in the following registry key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run

Deleting that registry value from registry will allow Windows to shut down
without problem.

Have a nice day!
