Rundll32 - do I need it?

Hi

a few times a day the cpu usage on my windows XP pc shoots up to 100% and
stays there. I have to reboot.

Using "perfmon" I can see that a program called rundll32 is using 100%
processor time, and when I shutdown the pc quite often rundll32 hangs, and
won't close itself.

Are there known problems with rundll32? (To tell the truth I don't really
know that this program is the problem on my pc, but it does seem a
possibility). What could cause the problems - and how can I fix it?

Thanks,
Peter
