RUNDLL Error

D

Dipboss

Two days after starting my new laptop, with Xp Home
installed by the manufacturer, I started getting the
folloing error on start-up:
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program
Files\bridge.dll
The specified module could not be found.

This error does not seem to affect any operation, but it
is frustrating to have to deal with it on a week old
machine. Thanks for any help!

Set a system restore point using System Restore in case of mistakes editing
the registry
(start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore)

Then start > run > "regedit"

Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look in the right pane for an entry called RUNDLL. Right-click it and choose
delete.

Similarly check (may or may not be an entry there)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Then navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser
Helper Objects

Look for a key like
{9C691A33-7DDA-4C2F-BE4C-C176083F35CF} in the left pane
Right-click it and choose delete

Reboot

Then get hold of the free spybot to clean up further
