I recently received an older AfterDark screensaver cd and
when I tried to load it on the computer which is running
Windows XP, a message popped up saying it needed Windows
3.1 in order to be installed.
Is there any way to be able to load this program onto my
Windows XP based system?

You could try running it in Compatibility Mode (look up the details in
XP's Help & Support), but be aware that the AfterDark program was
always pretty buggy and crash-prone.

I would not try running something like a screen saver that interfaces
into system controls if it was a 16 bit hangover from win 3
