when i receive an email with a specified keyword in the subject field,
i would like outlook to automatically send a reply to the sender with a
standardized message. i tried to add a new rule to do this with the
wizard, created an outlook template file with the reply i want to have
sent, but i couldn't get it to work.

can someone give me very explicit, step-by-step instructions? i never
used an outlook template before, so perhaps i am not doing this part
correctly, saving the template in the proper directory, or am making a
fundamental error that is eluding me.

appreciate any help on this topic.

Outlook/Exchange 2003--you don't need a template:
1. Tools, Rules and Alerts
2. E-mail Rules, New Rule
3. Start from Blank Rule, Check messages when the arrive, Next
4. Enable "with specific words in the subject", click on "specific words" in
the Step 2 box and add them. Next
5. Enable "have server reply using a specific message", click on "specific
message" in the Step 2 box and create the message (do not put anything in
the To field), close and save
6. Enable "stop processing more rules" (a good habit to add this to most
rules), Next
7. Any exceptions to the rule? Add them in this dialog
8. Finish it off with a name and click Finish.

Rules are executed in order on the E-mail Rules list, so place this message
lower than other rules you may have that file list messages, bulk or spam,
etc. to keep them from accidently triggering your rule (they have a "stop
processing more rules" action as well, don't they?).
