I have an Outlook 2003 SP1 (XP, SP2) client that cannot automatically process
rules. They have to manually select process rules now, but then it works
just fine. The Echange server is on Windows 2003, and exchange is 2003, SP2.
Any ideas?

ALL rules are subject to this limitation? Or just some?
When they go into the Rules Wizard under the tools menu in Outlook, are the
rules enabled?

Yes, the rule is enabled. I dont know if you would call it the rules wizzard
though. Just on the tools menu, and go into rules, and the checkbox is
checked. It doesn't matter if the rule is deleted and recreated. None of
the rules will process automatically.

I have been having the same problem for several months. It happened on my
old computer. It died, so I have a new computer. Same problem. It does not
matter what the rule is, or even how simple it is, such as "Delete all email
from (e-mail address removed)." It does not matter if it is client only or a
server rule. It does not matter which computer I am logged in to.

I do frequently use remote desktop. I am not sure if that can possibly be
related. I have opened Outlook remotely in the past as well. I have also
done this through Citrix. No idea if that really has anything to do with the
problem, though.

Just like Chris wrote, I also can run my rules manually, but they just will
not run on their own.

Client is Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003. Server is Exchange 2003 running
on Windows Server 2003 SP1.

I am also having this problem on my pop3 account. I have one rule,
permanently delete mail if it has a certain word in subject and rule never
applies automatically. Running manualy is too late as i dont want to read
mail, just want it gone. i have been running into this since i got outlook
over a year ago. I have one rule only on one account. It can't be simpler
than this and yet it doesn't work. Why can't someone at microsoft help with
this. It would seem like this is a major problem with many people and having
rules that work simply would be easy. We need help!!!

Please reply to this thread at your earliest convenience. There are a lot of
people who have been posting this same problem, but no one has a working
solution. Hopefully, upgrading to 2007 is not the solution since this worked
with 2003 in the past and now does not work at all.

Upgrading is definetely not a solution. MS should fix the problems with
existing software. Not make you buy new software because the old one is bad.

I'm having the same problem, but with only some rules. I have checked to
make sure the "stopping processing add'l rules" is unchecked. Some rules
work and some don't, when they all did before. Even moving a rule from the
bottom of the stack to the top seems to make no difference???

Same problem here. Microsoft seems unusually quiet on this particular topic
.. . . seems kinda funny that they are this quiet on a bug that soooo many
people are apparently having a problem with. C'mon MS - how about a solution!

"MS" doesn't post in this newsgroup with any regularity. This is not a
Microsoft communications path.
