Rule does NOT apply when receiving mail from mailing list

Hi,
I created several rules but the mails I receive from (Yahoo) mailing lists
still do NOT get moved to the specific folders. I put the mailing list
addresses in the "from" line and also tried them in the "to/cc" lines but
nothing helps; I still receive those mails in the Inbox and not in their
folders.
The other rules I created work fine (with f.e. friends of mine), just the
ones with the mailing lists somehow don't get to the right spot.
Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with Yahoo mailing lists, but I subscribe to several
non-Yahoo mailing lists. The list typically does not put its address in
the From or CC fields, so you can't filter on that. What I do is give
each list a unique address of mine, so that way I can filter on the
account that downloads the message. You can get unlimited POP
accounts from Google's Gmail.

Thank you, Gary, for the immediate reply.
My Yahoo lists all have "(e-mail address removed)" in the To field, Wonder, why
this can't be filtered?!
Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean with "a unique address of mine".
Would you mind explaining that a little more clear (for dummies like me).
Thanks so much for your help!!

Where the To line contains people
Move the specified folder
Stop processing more rules.

Is that basically what you have?

Yes, I did the "Where the To line contains people" and "Move it to the
specified folder". But, please, what do you mean with "Stop processing more
rules"???
Thanks.

For example, I have two spare email addresses:
(e-mail address removed)
(e-mail address removed)

Then I subscribe to one list with the email address (e-mail address removed),
and I subscribe to the next list as (e-mail address removed).
When a list message comes in, it gets filtered by these Message Rules:

1. Where the message is from the (e-mail address removed) account
move it to the List_1 folder
and stop processing more rules.

2. Where the message is from the (e-mail address removed) account
move it to the List_2 folder
and stop processing more rules.

In your case, though, you should be able to filter on the To:

Where the To line contains @yahoogroups
Move it to the YahooGroups folder
and stop processing more rules.

You must select "stop processing more rules" as the last step.
Otherwise the rules processor goes right into the next rule
without finalizing action on the current rule.

Gary,

Again many thanks for all your help and the detailed info on how to get
new/additional addresses.
I added the "stop processing more rules" to all my created rules - the one
that worked and the ones that didn't work (mailing lists) but I still get the
mails from the Yahoo list into the Inbox and not into the specified folder.
:-((((
Any other suggestion would be highly appreciated!!
I will probably not be able to check tonight; it's getting late.

Thank you!

That is the cue to tell WinMail to not to check any more rules as all the
criteria has been met. Perform the action on the message(s) that criteria
has been met.

Criteria: To: line contains people
Action : Move to the specified folder

Check the headers on the messages and ensure you are using in the rule, what
is supplied in the message. If not, look for other criteria such as the
subject line.

You should be able to set the criteria upon just the domain part as well in
case the username changes. Such as @groups.yahoo.com

SInce I don't know what the headers are, what is consistant about them,
that's about all I can tell you what to try.

Hi Gary and DGuess,

I finally got my problem solved.
I had put in a "copy/past" version into the rules but the addresses were
much too long, consisted too much information (f.e. (e-mail address removed)
<[email protected]>). After I just put in the main address (f.e.
(e-mail address removed)) without the name part in front and without the
brackets everything works great and fine.

I want to thank you both very much since you gave me great hints and tips
and helped me a lot. This forum is very good and informative and you guys are
great!
Again many thanks!!!

Glad you got it resolved.
The rule needs only the smallest segment of the name or
address that will make it unique. For example,
"Yahoogr" would probably be sufficient. The rules processor
probably works faster with the shorter string.
