My system clock is losing time and I want to replace the RTC battery to see if that is the problem. I have read that I should backup the BIOS and CMOS settings before doing this. How do I see these settings and back them up, and after I replace the battery, how do I restore these settings?

Windows XP Home/Compaq Presario V5000T/AMD Turion 64 processor.

Thank you,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Normally you will press the delete key on startup to enter the BIOS, but there is no easy way to backup the settings on this page - you'll need to write things down manually.

I would guess that as this is not a custom built machine that the BIOS will allow your PC to boot fine in the default configuration anyway. However, just to be sure you may want to write down things such as the boot device order.

Sorry that there isn't an easy way around this
