Dozens daily, simply by searching for "rpc" or "remote" in this forum.
Or search http://google.com for "blaster"

This is a worm.

Had ( and may still have) the same problem. Started today.
Was directed to the symantec website for virus/worm info.
Supposedly its the NT authority virus. But I can't find any
information there. Updated my virus definitions and found (
and deleted) the w32.blaster.worm files. Lengthly process.
Still can't keep Internet Explorer open. That's what
started all this. And I still haven't solved that one.

Don't forget to remove the entries in the regestry file
(back it up, first! - just in case!). Sounds like you may
have cleaned out the file references scattered around, but
without cleaning the registery, it will still act weird.
Just a hunch, though.

Greetings --

If you've connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabling a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and/or before
installing the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to have been
infected from any of the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are
constantly broadcasting the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only
takes a few seconds of exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
