RPC Service disabled for hardware profile

Dave

I have a workstation on which the RPC Service has been
disabled for the only hardware profile on the machine.
With it disabled, I can log in, but nothing works,
including the Properties dialog to re-enable the RPC
service! Any advice would be appreciated!

I had this same problem, and with the help of the RPC and
SMC developers, was able to find a workaround. I had the
same symptoms as you, completely unable to get back into
that properties page to re-enable the h/w profile.
Fortunately the following workaround should help
(verified on two test machines after disabling the h/w
profile):

If you can boot into Windows (regular or safe-mode), open
a command window (windows
key + r, type cmd.exe) and type the following text:

reg.exe delete "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware
Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ROOT\LEGACY
_RPCSS\0000"
/v CsConfigFlags

You may also be able to use the recovery console to edit
the above key manually.

Good luck!
