"RPC server is unavailable" error during software installation

Hi, I'm trying to install some software for my Creative Labs MP3 player
on my Windows XP system and I get the following error:

"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. The RPC
server is unavailable"

On my system, I've disabled the 'DCOM Server Process Launcher" service.
Is this service required for installing application software and does
it have any possible connection to the error message above?

I won't be enabling this service under any circumstances whatsoever.
Therefore, if it is the case that the service is required for
installing the Creative lab software, is there any kind of workaround
to get the software to install WITHOUT this DCOM service?

thanks,

William Knight

hi,
that doesnt seems to be the right solution at the problem.
If William Knight tries to unistall any product i am sure he will get
the same message.
(am i wrong?)
it happens at least to me but, in the NGs or in the knowlege base MS is
not possible to find an answer to this problem (at least i didnt find
one). How is possible that so many ppl have the problem but there is
no-one that had find the problem?

Thanks in advance for any tip u can give me,
Giovanni
