rpc problem shuts down computer

When booting up a windows xp home standalone system a
error message mentioning "NT Authority System . remote
procedure call, service terminated unexpectantly" the
machine then shuts down.
It's not on a network but is connected to the internet.

The computer is suspected to be infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm, to
remove this worm:
1. Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)
2. Type regedit and press OK
3. Navigate to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

4. In the right-pane, delete the value

"windows auto update"="msblast.exe"

5. Exit the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

It is also recommended to install the RPC patch from Microsoft immediately

I'm not having this problem, but a chat buddy started
getting it after she cancelled AOL. She can't stay
online more than a few minutes at a time. This is her
description of what she's going through:
....................................................
I'm on Windows XP Home. I haven't had any problem
whatsoever until after I talked to the guy at AOL and
cancelled. I started shutting down after I'd been
online, after the cancellation but before I uninstalled
the AOL program. This is the message I get and it counts
down 60 seconds before my computer shuts off.

System Shutdow

Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure
Call (RPC) terminated unexpectedly.

This shutdown was initiated by the NT Authority/System.

I will refer her to this newsgroup so she can check it
tomorrow. F. Barth
