RPC over HTTP -- Outlook over Internet option not showing

C

Craig

I have a user running Outlook 2003 SP2 on Windows XP SP2. All other
users running this configuration have a checkbox for "Outlook over the
Internet" on their Connections tab...this user does not. In all of
the reading I have done it mentions that you must have Outlook 2003
and XP SP1 for this option to be enabled. Someone else configured his
laptop for him so I am not sure if some sort of group policy is being
applied to block access to this.

Any ideas on where I can look??

A little confused, but if the OS is Windows XP (SP1), then they need to have
KB 331320. Ideally, I tell all my customers the base should be Windows XP
(SP2) since it saves them from tracking down the extra update.

In any event, can you check to see if EnableRPCTunnelingUI registry key
exists?

Location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC

and/or

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC

If EnableRPCTunnelingUI doesn't exists or set to 1, you should get the UI.
Other accepted values are 0 (Hidden), 2 (enable on/off but no config), 3
(enable config UI when settings are pre-deployed), and 4 (Disable but show
all config UI).

PS - Don't forget to double check the mail account configuration. Some
folks are cute where they setup for POP3/IMAP and throw you for a loop when
you think are a dealing with an Exchange mail profile.
