If you have it you have to get patched. Unfortunately your machine can be
remotely rebooted by someone hacking you when you are attempting to do this.
A firewall helps. What helps more is - and this only applies to Windows 2000
and XP and possibly NT4 - you right click on My Computer and select Manage.
From there in the left side click on Services and Applications then when
that comes up, click on Services. The services should all appear in
alphabetical order from there. Find the entries named Remote Procedure call
and Remote Procedure Call Locator. Right click on either one and select
Properties. Now when that window comes up, click on Recovery tab and where
it says First Failure and Second Failure and Subsequent Failures, change
them to read Restart The Service. What this will do is if you are being
hacked while trying to get the latest patch, instead of making your machine
reboot, it just restarts the service and allows you to continue.

Secondly, to save you all some time, go here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en and select the
critical update for your version of Windows. Win95 to Win ME unaffected.

Also make sure your virus scanner is up to date and if not, go here
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and download Stinger and run it. That will
get rid of any of the Blaster worm vestiges on your computer as well as
about 18 other possible worms/viruses or whatever.

Hope this helps some.
