thinking of buying a cd/dvd burning suite which on is better easy media
creator 7.5 or nero ultra edition 6.6?

Easy Media Creator 7.5 vs. Nero ultra edition 6.6 which one do you choose?

I have both! It really depends on your level of expertise. If you like to
"tweak" functions for burning CDs, Nero can not be beaten. If you are a
novice, Roxio has an advantage over Nero.

Nero, especially if the new owners of Roxio, Sonic Solutions, thinks it
gonna charge existing owners of EMC 7 for a .5 upgrade.

This seems to me to be similar to the PC vs Mac debate.

Those who use Nero, love Nero.

Those who use Roxio, love Roxio.

I have both EMC7 & Nero 6.6 installed and have used both, but I like
Nero a hell of a lot more. So much for your theory.

Very true. There are other good choices too. I've used Click 'n
Burn Pro and find that a good choice too.

Roxio allowed me to do a disk to disk copy from a DVD-R disc to a DVD+R
blank. Nero insisted I use a DVD-R blank. The Roxio copy worked fine in
several computers and also my stand alone DVD player. Might have just been
an idiosyncrasy of my drives.

I have used both, although I am not familiar with the current version of
Roxio. I think that for me the tiebreaker would be Nero's excellent backup
program. "Backitup".

Over my time of testing versions of "Roxio Easy CD Coaster Creator" I
found Roxio to be way more problamatic than Nero......

There is somewhat of a difference in one area, I believe Roxio is more
"typical" user friendly than Nero(always seems to have been that
way)....Nero has changed over time, I assume, to appeal to the
"typical" user with their newer interfaces, especially vision xpress and
all that "one click" wonder appeal......Nero at one time took a little
thought to use & most shyed away from it giving Roxio a hands up.

I on the other hand "SWEAR" by Nero & will continue to use it, it has
never let me down for what "I" use it for. The video-recording-editing-
conversion portions I do not use as I use much more reliable software
for that......(Im not stating that Nero is not reliable in that area, I
just like other software with more capability) But, as far as DVD movie
burning, my final burn of the structured video/audio is always done by
Nero.....It has not let me down at all.............

Am I an expert on the subject? No, just a little bit more of an advanced
user that has experienced lots of other burning software and have grown
to like Nero very much for what it does for "ME."

I think it boils down to personal preference as they both pretty much do the
same thing. A point that no one else seemed to have mentioned yet, which
may assist in your decision, is that Nero offers a free (downloadable)
trial version.

I personally use Nero but at one time was a proud user of Roxio's product.
The big XP fiasco is what made me convert. Easy CD Creator (version 4 I
believe) would not work at all on XP and Roxio's only option was to pay for
an upgrade to the new version. They did eventually release a patch but they
did not make this widely known, but this was well after I made the switch.

Even Einstein allowed for exceptions to his theories :-)

My experience with this issue tells me this Roxio vs. Nero comparison is
more a preference debate than a feature-by-feature showdown.

Strange. The availability of the patch was plastered all over the
Internet, both on USENET and the WWW, within a day or so of it's
release. Sounds more like a case of YOU not paying attention than a
fault of Roxio.

I'm not sure what patch you are referring to (perhaps some issue that arose
when SP2 was released? I wouldn't know as I ditched Easy CD years ago now),
but I don't think we are thinking about the same issue. The issue I am
referring to is just after Windows XP hit the market and v4 of Easy CD.
Roxio had no intention of support v4 with XP. Do a Google Groups search
dating back to late 2001. There is plenty of evidence of this (including
exerpts from FAQs from their own page stating they wouldn't support it). In
mid December of 2001 I even emailed Roxio complaining about the fact and
this was their reply:

"Greg,

Previous version of the software will not support Win XP. They have been
discontinued before the release of Win XP.

Thank you for your comments. I will forward your comments to the appropriate
area for review.

I think it's a matter of preference. I don't like Roxio, I think its
graphic interface suxio. My only major complaint about Nero is that when
I'm done burning a CD it asks me "What do you want to do now?" and there
is no "Go Home" button.

I like Nero better because Roxio crashes all the time.
