Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic - audio dropouts

O

otis

I am using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic (version
5.3.0.76) to burn CDs and get dropouts in some songs.
This almost always happens after the first 1 or 2 seconds
of the first song and on a few other songs as well.
Sometimes I will hear a faint click or pop.

I've tried using two different utilities (MusicCD project
or Disc Copier), burning at a slower speeds (8x), and
keeping all other applications turned off, but with the
same results.

According to Roxio's website, my version of the software
is compatible with the Philips CD/DVD burner. Any
suggestions? Could it be the CD media?

Are you burning an audio CD from mp3 files or from wav files? Does the
sound fluctuation not appear in the original files of which ever format? If
not, and you are burning from mp3, you might try converting the mp3 files to
wav format first, and then burning those wav files to CD-R as an audio disk.
If the sound fluctuations exist in the original mp3 files, consider using
sound normalizing software on the files before burning:
http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/ or just re-download the tunes from a
different source, assuming they were downloaded from a p2p service.

As well as the other applications you've turned off, always be sure to
temporarily deactivate your antivirus software before burning a CD.

HTH,
Ian.

Ian/Lorraine,

Thanks for the reply. I am only burning .wav files. The
thing that surprises me is that some CDs burn fine, but
many don't. And all of the original music files (CDs) are
perfect - no dropouts/clicks/pops.

Well, I'm stumped then- I've never experienced that. And I'm assuming that
you've tried playing these burnt CD's on a couple of different machines
(different CD players, or on your computer, etc.) to confirm that the burn
really has somehow gone badly and that it's not just your CD player which is
at fault.

While awaiting responses here from someone who can help you more than I
could, might I suggest also posting your question in the alt.music.mp3
newsgroup, a busy group full of helpful folks who specialize in audio
burning questions.

Good luck, and sorry I couldn't be more helpful,

Ian.
