Routing network traffix through proxy..proxycfg???

Ok here's the situation, I'm not sharing my internet
connection and my computer is connected directly to a
cablemodem. What I want to be able to do is route ALL
internet bound traffic through a proxy server address(I
do not have a proxy server, I'm wanting to route to a
friends..) I know that I can change the proxy settings
in IE and Netscape etc but what about programs that don't
have that option?

Proxies operate on a protocol-specific basis. It doesn't make sense to
route email to a web proxy. Likewise with other protocols.

Deliberately using a proxy when one is not needed seems quite strange to
me. What does your friend have that you can't get for yourself?

I don't have a proxy server. I'm trying to keep any
connections that my computer initiates from being
directly traced to my real IP address.
