no joy any ideas what i havent dun yet

Why would you expect either the router or Windows XP to "split" your ISP
connection?

What router do you have? What speed package do you have from your ISP?

because it did before i formated, as i explained i have a 1mb conection, when
i first got router my speeds were in excess of 350kbs but since formating
only normal speed, also a router is supossed to split my conection not share
it

Sorry, but I think you have a couple fundamental misunderstandings.

First, a router is indeed intended to share a connection, not "split" it.
If your connection to your ISP is a 1mb connection then that's what you
have, a router cannot magically make it "split" into two 1mb connections.

Second, reformatting and reinstalling Windows has no effect on the job your
router does (or does not do). Your router is the same bit of hardware it
was before you reinstalled Windows.

As for why your connection is performing worse than before - since you
recently reinstalled Windows did you also carry out any driver updates or
connection tweaks that may have existed before you reinstalled Windows?
