Router "Stack Overflow"

B

Buster

Hi There,

I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router which seems to work well but
when I log onto the router and move around the options I get various Windows
Internet Explorer "Stack overfow at line: 1" errors, or 0 or 2 or 3 depending
on what button I press.

I can't upgrade the Firmware Version either. Maybe this has something to do
with the Stack Overflow problem?

I run a top of the range machine with XP SP2.

Has anybody any thoughts please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
There might be corrupted code in the firmware.
Write down all your special setting and do Hard Reset (look at the manual)
after hard reset it gets back to the manufacturer default settings and you
would be able to upgrade firmware.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the quick response. I've already tried the hard reset of the
router with Linksys online help and still get the same problem.

Hi
Just to be sure, try it with another computer, and or another Browser.
Otherwise if it does not let you flash after Hard Reset, it might be the
time to say farewell to this particular Device.
P.S. Depending on the version you can try this too, it is actually better
firmware than the original.

Hi Jack,

Thanks again for getting back to me.

I've just tried another computer on the netwrok and the same problem with
stack overflows and being unable to update the Firmware.

You siad "P.S. Depending on the version you can try this too, it is actually
better firmware than the original" I didn't understand that point.

So, I downloaded Firefox and hey, no stack problems. Hmmmm. So I tried the
firmware upgrade and again it failed with a message on a big red page: "This
server could not verify that you are authorized to access. Either you
supplied the wrong credentials(e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't
understand how to supply the credentials required"

So, where to now please?

Cheers

Ok now I'm really confused! Neither IE or Firefox now have stack problems!

I still can't do the firmware upgrade though :(.

One last bit of information, the error message included "401 Authorization
Required"

Does this help?

All of your errors come from the html interpreter in the IE or Firefox, and
it is telling you that there is something wrong with the html code which the
router generates.
As resetting the router did not help, it seems to me that you have a
defective router on your hands.

I would agree with this - this is why I don't buy Linksys
any more.

TWO identical access points I had failed this way - becoming
more and more flaky over a couple weeks time before failing
completely.

I use Netgear now.

Hi
Well it seems that unfortunately my comment from yesterday is the next step.
"Otherwise if it does not let you flash after Hard Reset, it might be the
time to say farewell to this particular Device".

Thanks for the help guys and I'll investigate a replacement unit as it's not
that old.
