Router problem or SP2 Security?

I'm on cable broadband, and almost every day I get a disconnect,
or a popup saying the TCP/IP connection to the server was
disconnected. Then I cannot reconnect to the mail or internet
servers. The techs say it's a router problem because the
modem has good strong signals and is staying "online". I hope
there's a cure besides getting rid of the router...are routers to
blame as the cable company says it is? TIA

Do your router logs have anything to say?

Have you tried a direct connect from the modem to the computer (not
connected through the router)? If you continue to lose your connection,
then it is the modem and not the router. Has the tech been to the house and
monitored the signal?

I've removed the router and am testing it that way to see if the disconnects
occur. I've not had the tech come out because signals to the modem are
"strong" according to the ISP. If disconnects do not occur without the
router (a wired Linksys) I'll setup the router log and see what's up.
Thanks
for the info.

No one can tell if the signal to the modem is strong unless the signal is
checked at the modem connection. They are giving you a line of s**t.
