Router not renewing IP address

After about a year of perfect service, my USR 8022 router just stopped
working. It seems that the router cannot renew the IP address, and is stuck
on 169.254.190.59

After trying everything I could think of - ipconfig /release /renew, reset,
uninstall/reinstall TCP/IP, uninstall/reinstall Windows, Windows network
troubleshooting, etc, etc, etc, I finally got on to the US Robotics help
line. The chap talked me through all the things that I'd already done, and
then decided that the unit was dead and to return it for a replacement.

The replacement turned up and that was the same. Back onto the help line,
and I was told that this unit must be faulty as well. I have now received
the third unit and it still does not work. This indicates to me that it is
a configuration problem, but I'm at my wit's end as to what.

As I said, the router cannot renew its IP address. When running the
ipconfig / renew command, I get the message 'Unable to contact your DHCP
server. Request has timed out'.

When the cable modem is connected directly to the PC, I can connect, so it
ain't the modem.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here, please? I have been trying
to fix this for a month now.

Phil.

It's your computer that can't renew its IP address, not the router.
