My linsys router burned out and I swithed to a 4 port Belkin. I can connect
to the internt but I can't get into my Schwab account and I can't get to
this computer through laplink. any ideas on what to do?
Routers normally have some kind firewall built in. Maybe it's something
to do with that blocking access to various ports by default.

Well you could exchange the Belkin for the same Linksys model.

If you get to the internet then the problem with Schwab may have nothing
to do with the router. But a possible problem, maybe the Belkin is using
the wrong MTU for your ISP which causes some routing problems. My ISP
uses a MTU size 1492 others use MTU 1500. If the Belkin has automatic ISP
configuration this probably isn't the problem. Also, sounds like you can
get to the Schwab site but can't login which would be password or Windows
problem.

Don't know LapLink but the Belkin may be blocking the ports LapLink is
using to communicate on your network.

Without more details (model numbers, ISP) it's hard to diagnose. If you
wrote down the configuration from the Linksys you could compare it to the
Belkin configuration.

Bit of a longshot, but I wonder if perhaps the old Linksys had UPnP
(Universal Plug n' Play) enabled by default, but the Belkin doesn't.

Just off hand I'd say you don't have the Belkin configured like the linksys
was and, in particular, it sounds like you've got ports firewall blocked
that were open on the Linksys.
