Root Key deletion

What are the ramifications of deleting the root key (.)?
Are there any situations where it shouldn't be done? If
we already have a server with forwarders enabled, would
it hurt to have a second?

If by "root key" you mean the "." root folder in the DNS forward lookup zones, yes remove this. Otherwise this box will not have Internet name resolution. It won't
hurt to have two servers configured with forwarders.

Thank you,
