Root Files For Drivers

As part of the instructions to install a chipset driver after building a new pc
I am told to download the driver file and copy it to the root directory of a
floppy disc for installation at F6 when installing Windows XP OS. This may
seem like a dumb question, but what is the root directory of a floppy disc?
Can you just copy it to a floppy any old way and keep it as the only file on
the disc? Does it need to go into a folder or something on the disc...just not
sure what a root directory is.

Root directory means it's not in any sub-directory.

Just to clarify, if I then copy the file to a disc, or if I copy several files
to a disc all the files are in the root directory as long as I don't put any of
them into a folder???

So if I need to install 3 drivers and they are all copied to a floppy with no
folders made on the floppy then all 3 drivers are in the root directory?

Thanks...

If you just copy the files to the A drive they should end up in the
root. If you copy a directory to the A drive then that will be a
subdirectory off the root and whatever files were in the directory
will now be in a subdirectory off the root. Ultimately all
directories and subdirectories are subdirectories off the root.

When you are in your C drive and can see the directories (subs
actually) WinNT, Program Files, Porn, My Crap, then you are in the
root of the drive whence all directories begin in. It's the same in
the floppy disk.

Also, depending on what 3 drivers you copy to the drive, they may try
and overwrite each other. For example if each set of driver files has
an oem.inf file.

Just to clarify, if I then copy the file to a disc, or if I copy several files
