Root DNS

are DNS resource records do not replicate from our root
to our child domains, why is this.... as a result we are
having problems adding clients to the domains. Should we
be adding the entrys manually to the root or is there a
way we can replicate this information down?

hope this makes sense

thanks in advance

In Windows 2000, DNS does not replicate between the Parent and Child domain.

For Win2k parent to resolve a child domain you should delegate the child
name to the Child DNS, then Forward from the Child DNS to the parent DNS.
Never forward from the Parent DNS to the Child DNS.

Just to add, if he doesn't want to do a delegation, he can also choose to
have a Secondary zone of the parent zone on the Child domain's DNS server.

Yes, you can use a secondary. But using a secondary of a dynamic DNS zone
comes with its effects, every time a client of server updates its records in
the dynamic zone, it will cause an incremental zone transfer, then the
secondary will log run time events in the event log due to all these
incremental zone transfers. These can be ignored, but you should be aware of
this so you know what is going on when you see them.
