I finally have removed the drive from
my old computer.

It is a Seagate Mod.ST340810A
40GB

There is instructions on the drive.
To set it as a slave, I completely
remove the jumper.

It also tells me to run the BIOS
or System Setup Program
after installing.
Is this necessary ?

After I install it, the system should
recognize it and assign it a drive letter?

Thanks,
Larry

Not really, the drive type should default to AUTO.
No real harm in checking that tho.
