Roaming Profiles

I am trying to set up roaming profiles for some of our users. This is
primarily so they can receive their emails on any computer that they use.
However, it seems that Outlook does not allow .PST files and the like to be
available on a network share.
We do not use Exchange.
Is there any (preferably simple) method of getting this to work?

I use PST's on network shares all the time.
Use a mapped drive, don't try and use \\server\share\some.pst
Use
h:\some.pst
or
h:\folder\some.pst
