Roaming Profiles

Hi All,

I'm running win2k and active directory with three OU's.
One OU in the UK, One OU in the US and One OU in Sydney.

Here's my problem: When a user travles to another office
and logs onto the domain, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes
to load their profile.

Keep in mind that the Global Catalog for each OU, is not
sync its database due to wan bandwith, and this probally
the source of my problem.

I was wondering if its possible to setup a VPN connection
for the OU's, and use this link to sync the Global
Catalog Servers? Will this work? I can not use my
exsisting T1 for this purpose.

Thanks.

.
Vince,

Do you by chance mean "Sites" in place of "OUs"? If so,
have you set up and configured your Sites in the Active
Directory Sites and Services OU, created the appropriate
Subnets and then associated each subnet with the correct
Site?

Also, what OSes are the clients using? And when George,
from the UK office, goes to the Sydney office is he
bringing his laptop with him or is he just sitting down at
any old computer ( maybe they set up a computer for him in
advance - we used to do that when people from the NYC
office came to visit )?

Please take a look at the following MSKB Articles:

The following three are on Sites:

I might start there. If you have any further questions
please feel free to ask.

Guys,

Another issue here is the size of the profiles and the bandwidth they are
being downloaded over. eg. If a user has a 10mb profile and you are
dowloading to Sydney from New York over a 56k pipe then this could take a
very long time. Other than finding a bigger pipe, there is really no other
way around this problem.

Hope this helps.

Craig,

Very good point. I probably should have mentioned that.
However, I am questioning just a bit whether "roaming
profiles" ( like you and I know them ) are really being
used in this case.

Thanks again,

Cary
