Roaming Profiles Delay?

I

Isaac

Running dual-homed SBS 2000, all updates.

On Windows XP SP1/a machines using Roaming Profiles I've noticed that, if
the Windows 2000 server is unavailable (i.e. the server containing the
Roaming
Profiles share), the GUI sometimes becomes unusable.

For instance, if the server is unavailable and the start button is clicked,
there is a long delay before it pops up. Basically, any attempt to click
anywhere results in a very long wait.

The item eventually comes up, but there is usually is 10 - 15 second delay.
It's odd, because all these items are installed on the local machine.

Folder Redirection is not being used, neither is Offline Files. Any ideas as
to what would cause this behavior?

Hello Issac,

Have you configured group policy to delete loally stored User profiles at
loggoff? If so try to disable this feature and see if you have the same
issue.

Are there errors in the application log in regards to userenv and scecli?

If so please provide the exact details within the errors.

If the above does not help or is not valid enable Userenv logging on the
client, log in
and repost with that Userenv.log and the name of the user account you are
testing with.

Hello. Thank you for answering. I thought I had the problem resolved by
making the following registry edit (I did it through a GPO) as suggested in
win2000.general:

"Adding the LinkResolveIgnoreLinkInfo value as type REG_DWORD and setting
it to 1 at
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r"

After a reboot it, came back. Below are the answers to your questions.
Thanks again.

No, profiles stay on the machines. I've tried deleting the profiles locally
(from My Computer). They roam properly (for the most part), just the delay
problem. If it's important, these machines are connected to an SBS 2000
server running ISA (dual-homed) with all the latest service packs in the
recommennded configuraion. The machines in question are SecureNAT clients to
the ISA server.
