Roaming Profile Problem

Hi:

Hopefully someone has seen this problem, which is plaguing me
intermittently.

I've got a Windows 2003 server domain environment using roaming
profiles.

A user is happily using his computer with only has user rights on his
computer.

Now it's time for him to get a new XP Pro system. So he logs into the
new computer, and he can't run Outlook (just bombs with a helpful
message like, "Outlook cannot be Run"
And Outlook Express won't allow you to create profiles.
And, all the icons on the left side of the Start popup menu don't
appear.

If I give him administrator rigthts to the machine, everything works
fine. But as a normal user, the above problems exist.

The worse part is that it doesn't happen all the time.

It's a bummer, since until I can figure this out, all my nice, locked
down users are getting admin rights to their machines?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

Have you tried temporarily granting this user admin rights, running all the
apps, and cleaning things up, and then revoking the rights and trying again?
Was this user on W2k before? Roaming profiles aren't compatible between OS
versions. Sometimes stuff works, sometimes it doesn't..... often you have to
recreate profiles, or portions thereof.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I've tried temporarily granting admin rights, then denying.
The problem comes back.

It doesn't seem to matter if the previous computer was Win2K or XP.
Same issue.

It's got to be some sort of permission problem, either to some
directory or to some registry key.
But where???

Thanks,

Tony

Not sure; I've never seen the aforementioned fix fail to work. I might just
wipe & recreate the profile to remove whatever weird shards were in
there....save favorites, special shortcuts, etc., first.
