Roaming outlook without exchange

I'm not sure if this is the right group, but is it at all possible to having
a roaming outlook profile without having an exchange server? our company has
a really old mail server, and funds is kinda tight, so im just trying to make
due with what weve got. heres our environment

2003 Active Directory
Windows 2000/XP Clients
Roaming Profiles
Redirected My Documents

My plan was to create a default outlook profile and have the pst file point
to a shared folder. That way when the user logs into a new machine, the
default profile will look for the pst file there instead of the default pst
location. is this possible at all or do i absolutely need exchange to do this?

thanks!

Not practically. Non-Exchange configurations use a .pst file to store data. You don't want them to roam, nor does Microsoft support storing them on a network drive, as corruption may occur.
