RMJ & CDA music files problem

Hi, I am trying to help my friend with her new Mp3 player. New to this type
of technology- read the instructions a bit and getting the hang of it. It is
a RCA 1072 Lyra. we tried to drag and drop but files ending in RMJ or CDA do
not get transfered. the programs we have are windows media player, real one,
music match jukebox, all are current versions as far as I know.
We tried changing the extension (as a long shot) but it still didnt work. DO
we have to change the type to WMA or ??? can any of these programs do this??
ALso, can we use wav files?
OS= windows xp sp2
