In my experience, Windows Server 2003 RIS is significant faster than
Windows 2000 Server RIS....

The Textmode part of the setup of a Windows XP SP1 Install on a 100
mbit network should take no more than 3 - 5 minutes...(then the
computer restarts and uses the local files for the GUI part of the XP
Install which takes about 20 - 30 minutes depending on the performance
of the client)

On a small network you can gain some extra performance on the RIS
Server by disabling the two SIS services installed by RIS (SIS
groveler can be disabled through the Services MMC, but the SIS service
itself has to be disabled in the registy at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSIS). However this
solution means that the RIS images will take much more space on
disk...
