Right mouse button on desktop then properties takes a long time to load

Hi all,

Would appreciate a solution for my above mentioned problem. I have just
bought a 3.0 FSB800 PC with 1Ghz of ram at 400 speed, therefore I thought my
system would fly.

Unfortunatley on simple things like accessing the properties dialog from the
desktop i.e. right mouse button on desktop->properties, takes some time to
load, any suggestions on where the problem might be.

Thanks in advance for all your help

It could be a slow hard drive. Especially if opening it a
second time is fast.

Possibly you don't have the latest drivers for your
hardware.

Your system may have a cooling problem. Do you hear the
sound of fans running? If not, you may want to take it
back to where you got it and see if they can fix it. If
this is the problem, it would likly cause a complete
system slowdown, not just a few random things.

You may also have defective RAM.

The display properties dialog gathers information from a
few different places. For example, it needs to check your
monitor for its available resolutions. Unfortunatly, this
can not be sped up by the processor or memory.

Is there something in common about the things that do run
slow? This may help narrow down the possibilities.

Thats all I can think of, but I'm sure there are other
possibilities.

A slow drive might be the problem, I've used a crossover cable and connected
my computer to another so i guess it might be looking at the other drives
before it starts off?

On the other hand if I have defective memory would it not show someware, how
can I check?

Thanks for your response
