right clicking on anything

Recently I have just got the internet. I have installed all Windows XP critical updates and all Norton updates. I don't think this has caused this but nowafter a while on the next day (today) when ever I right click either on the internet a folder (i.e.double click on my computer then right click) or on the task bar along the bottom saying start or any windows I have open, when ever I do this its just blank. I have to scroll over all of the options and then they all apear. This is very annoying because I don't know where everyting is due to I'm new with XP.
