When I go to either of my optical drives and right click on em it crashes
windows explorer.
The crash report:
(Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.Fault bucket 127106076.

sends me to MS page that says possible virus and a couple of steps to check
it out, all come back clean as does any and all virus scans, adware scans and
et all. I am confident that there is no virus or adware/ malware issues, just
some bizarre conflict type issue.
This will happen on a clean boot or in safe mode and after a system restore
as far back as I can go, if I make a shortcut to either drive then a right
click on the short cut also crashes it.
In administrative tools disk managment a selection for properties on either
drive will crash explorer.
Uninstalling both drives in HWD MGR and restarting with either one or both
hooked up gets the same right click crash sneers and chears.
Uninstalling the IDE controllers in Device Manager and restart/reinstall
produced no better results.

I can get into the disk if I use the search bar at the top of the "MY
computer" page and scroll to the drive number then all is normal if I right
click on anything in the page.
Both drives operate just fine, read, burn play etc, no problem, BUT try and
open the beginning right click menu and it's crashvill.

Cant really pin this to any recent software installs but then again I don't
usually have to explore a disk or check the drive properties so I have no
Idea how long this has been going on.
After hours of unproductive MS knowledge base and support searching I'm
feeling stuck.

So ANY ideas on how to resolve this folks?

Problems with right-click are usually caused by third-party entries into
the context menu. These are most easily troubleshot with the free
ShellExView. Also, an older DivX codec caused crashing on some
computers after SP2 was installed.

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html - ShellExView

Manage the context-menu entries for folders, drives and Namespace
objects - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/context_folders.htm

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm

Right click causes an error and crashes Explorer.exe after installing
Windows XP SP2 - http://www.winxptutor.com/sp2/divxcrash.htm
