right-click on folder to 'Search' doesn't work

Using Windows XP Pro, while in Windows Explorer, when I
right-click on any drive and select 'Search', I get an
error stating that it can not send the command to the
program. However, if I click on the search button in the
menu bar at the top of Windows Explorer I have no
problems. All the other right-click selections work
fine. The search one is the only one that doesn't.
Anyone else experience this? Know the cause?

Thanks!
Ken

Hey, Ken.

I'm trying to find an answer for the same problem. Have
had one reply (from Ramesh), but the suggestions didn't
work for me.

You can see the thread by searching "Right-Click" for
date 28.Nov.03.

Good luck ... to us both!

Rgds.

I also tried Ramesh's, as well as Kelly's, and I have not
had any luck... I called Dell and they are researching
it. I'll post the solution if/when I get one. Please do
the same. Thanks!

I think ramesh has an answer for you. He sent me a log file earlier, and I found the cause in that log file. I just don't have a clue where it originally came from, fromn you? If so post back and I'll post a fix (he must have gone to bed)

I turned off Zone Alarm it it took care of the
problem...thanks everyone!

The exact setting in Zone Alarm that you need to change
is under Program Control. Click the 'Programs' tab and
scroll down to Windows Explorer. Make sure you 'Allow'
access to the internet. You can also choose 'Prompt' and
you can be prompted the first time you try to do a search
on a drive.

Good Luck!

Hey, all.

The ZA setting tweak did the trick for me, though I don't
understand why WinExplorer should need Internet access
for a local-disk search.

I also tried Kelly's fix ... she's been very helpful to
me in the past. However, the reg edit she pointed to
didn't resolve the issue on this machine.

Will keep monitoring this thread for a while to see what
other info's made available.

Thanks to all.
