Hello.
Suddenly under details in windows explorer the column "codec" is
replaced by "pages" and does not show any codecs anymore. It is also
dissapeared from the dropdown list where you select what to display,
also is it not listed when i click on "more"!
First i thought it was a windows update. But i checked my desktop
which got the same updates and it still works fine and displays the
used codecs in detail view in windows explorer.
I noticed that it was missing after i tried to synchronize a movie
with SyncView (freeware edition) which didn't work. Then with
virtualdub, which didn't work either and complained about wrong dll,
and finaly i used YAAI.
The next day when i turned on my lap i noticed that it is not showing
any used codecs in detail view in windows explorer, and it is not
available for use in selection anymore.
How can i fix this problem?

Codec or Codecs is not a default Windows XP item in View | Choose details.
It was probably added by one of the programs that you mentioned. Pages is a
Windows XP item.

Reinstall the screwed up programs.

Available Column Settings
Owner, Name, Size, Type, Date Modified, Status, Attributes, Author, Title,
Subject, Category, Pages, Comments, Copyright, Date Created, Date Accessed,
Attributes, Artist, Album Title, Year, Track Number, Genre, Duration, Bit
Rate, Protected, Camera Model, Date Picture Taken, Dimensions, Company,
Description, File Version, Product Name and Product Version

Note: Name, Size, Type and Modified settings are enabled by default.

Not all file formats will support these additional column settings. For
example, a Microsoft Word document can contain Author information, but a
Notepad document cannot.

just knowing that CODEC is not an windows xp item in view did the
trick.
Since the installed programms didn't work for what they was insatlled,
and YAAI is just an executable, i thought it might the codecpack which
i updated/installed previously, before trying to fix the movie.
After reinstalling the older cole2k codecpack i have again the option
to display CODEC in the file view.
Thanks a lot.

Glad to hear it. Keep having fun.
