right click desktop no new word

Hi.
I've just done a factory restore of Vista H P and re-installed my apps,
including MS Office 2007. But when I right click the desktop and choose
'new' I don't see a Word document as one of the options. Excel. Access,
Publisher etc are there but not the one I need most often - and which i had
before the restore. Anyone have any ideas on getting it back????
TIA.

Thanks for that but the following message comes up when I try to merge:

Cannot import C:\Desktop\Newdocx.reg: the specified file is not a registry
script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry
editor.

Looking in the registry at
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew], "NullFile" displays
REG_SZ under Type and the value column is blank. Should I delete REG_SZ ??

Copy and paste the reg file below into a blank text document.
Save it as NewDocx.reg ,right-click the reg file and select 'Merge'.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew]
"NullFile"=""

Is this a related issue? Looking at some of my reinstalled Word files, I
have a mix of files named under 'Type' as "Microsoft Office Word 97-2003
Document", (presumably .doc files) and later files named under 'Type' as
"DOCX File" but with an icon unlike any version of the Word icon; it looks
like a pale blue square within a grey bordered square, somewhat smaller than
the normal Word icon and opens as code, of which the following is a small
sample.

[=püHG*ÅGù"¹<ÝüÉ"Âeo±adtbG*µåhñ¦£aS£rñ×&1Z£ò¾Izk¡Ä#Zr·'Ú"©Ñ´ßzä¯Gl5¿f»X@âú?»¸PµYz .\Ãè~<ÿuðê^#·Ýà¡n&,µ8-ú:blush:ògJ"°~<¬5>ͽýV?,¾:''EnæSâfá¸m,¢ÃZ

I had to choose 'open with' and nominate Word as the default app to make the
Word icon reappear and the files open normally when clicked. I don't
remember having these problems last time I did a factory restore 2 or 3
years ago and wonder what has cause them this time?

Office Diagnostics was run but found no problems. Is this a Vista home
Premium or Office problem do you think?

It sounds like you missed off the ' Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 '
line.
But it doesn't matter as your .docx reg key looks the same as mine.
I've got ' NullFile REG_SZ (blank)

Have you tried the Office Diagnostics?
Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools.
