right-click desktop gives dr watson error

for the past 3 days - i have had several users that when they right click on
the desktop they get dr watson fatal error

the machines are running winxp sp2, no software changes in the past 2 weeks,
i'm not sure why this started happening

any suggestions on the cause or resolution?
